Living In Charlottesville and more

I left lovely Albemarle County this week and traveled to Northern Virginia to try something different. I went to ……Natstown.  I hate to admit that I had never heard of “Natstown” before.  This is the ball park for the Washington Nationals Baseball team.  We rode the metro in  (this metro was so much cleaner than the subways I’ve visited in New York).  The ball park… well I was greeted by Theodore Roosevelt.

My host ...President Roosevelt

              Theodore Roosevelt

(Sorry my photographer chopped off his head)

But also walking around  the park was George, Abe and Tom.  The kids loved them (and so did I).

It appears that sometime before or during the game the tradition is to have the presidents  race around a certain part of the track(which they did) but Teddy did not run well.  I came home and looked up his bio on the website

President #:  26    Years in Office:   1901-09
Height:    5’8 1/2?
Hometown:     New York, New York
Nickname:  “TR”
Favorite Sport:   Boxing, Hunting
Major Achievements:
  • Youngest President
  • Panama Canal
  • Nobel Peace Prize

Teddy is a mystery.  Teddy has become a crowd favorite among fans who seem baffled by his seeming inability to win. He’s got the skills, he’s got the drive, he’s got the brains, yet victory has been elusive. Maybe it’s his independent Bull-Moose spirit. Teddy doesn’t like to play by the rules. He’s been spotted in the Upper Bowl, or tossing t-shirts, or cruising in a golf cart, while his racing compatriots stick to the track. This has caused some resentment – some jealousy – from the other three. Will Teddy ever win? Pundits agree: Teddy will win. When Teddy decides to win.

AND… Teddy was not the only one that lost that night.  The Nationals played the Cubs.  It was a close game but the Cubs were victorious that night.
